Mother Of Twins Sentenced To Month In Jail For Cocaine Usage

Leanne Samos

This afternoon, a mother of two broke down in tears after hearing that she was sentenced to a month in jail after she was busted with a cocaine pipe. She is thirty-two year Leeanne Monique Samuels, also known as Leanne Samos. She is a mother of a pair of one-year, three-month old twins but today, she missed her visitation day due to being on lockdown overnight at the police station after she was arrested. Samuels was also accused of committing a mischievous act after stating that her name was Monique Zaragoza upon her arrest, which police later discovered to be untrue. Samuels also admitted that she sometimes used the name Leeanne Samos. The Burrell Boon resident’s two children have been taken from her custody by Social Services and she has been sentenced to two, one month sentences to be served at the Belize Central Prison. Additionally, Samuels must enroll in the NDACC Program for persons struggling with drug addictions. Samuels has racked up four previous drug offenses and is in debt to the court for five hundred ten dollars. Samuels appeared unrepresented before the Chief Magistrate who agreed with the prosecutor that another fine was not a sufficient sentence for the repeat offender and should instead, be remanded to prison and enrolled in the NDACC program. Samuels broke down in tears stating that her children are already in the care of the Human Services Department and that she fears a prison sentence would cause her to lose custody permanently.
