PM Feels He Has Gained Ground Leading into Municipal Elections
The leadership of the Belize Sugar Cane Farmers Association feels that the Prime Minister did not handle the recent sugar cane debacle in the best possible way, with the municipal elections just two months away. In fact, some of the cane farmers who spoke publicly last week even questioned whether or not the prime minister has lost ground in his constituency. News Five asked the PM himself when we caught up with him on Thursday, and he feels quite the contrary. And although the P.U.P. Northern Caucus is a political arm, he says that body also played a role in the process.
Prime Minister John Briceño
“Absolutely not. It’s supposed to be the opposite. I think that we have managed to get even more support because we intervened and we helped to avert a crisis – a crisis that doesn’t only affects Orange Walk and Corozal, but can affect the entire country of Belize. I’m grateful to the Northern Caucus for the support that they have given me in helping me to be able to, to find a compromise between both sides.”
