Life in Prison for Murder Accomplice

Leroy Haulze

In 2019, Leroy Haulze was arraigned for the murder of clothing vendor Jose Diaz, who was shot at his place of business on Cemetery Road in Belize City. Today, Haulze was delivered a life sentence and will spend thirty-one years in prison before he will be eligible for parole. The charge came after video evidence showed Haulze acting as lookout for the gunman that murdered Diaz. Initially, Haulze was charged in conjunction with suspected gunman, Emmerson Garnett. However, as the surveillance footage linking Haulze to the crime did not clearly display the gunman’s identity, Garnett was acquitted of the charge in 2023. Haulze, on the other hand, can be seen not only keeping watch as the murder occurred, but he also seen meeting up with the killer and fleeing the scene together after the crime was committed. Justice Nigel Pilgrim sentenced Haulze to life in prison with a mandatory thirty-one years served before parole. However, this sentence will not take effect until April 2026 due to a previous five-year sentence Haulze must complete on account of a 2021 robbery charge.
