Traffic to Be Diverted Unto New Haulover Bridge on Jan 25th
According to Moody, on January twenty-fifth, the old Haulover Creek Bridge will be closed. He explained that the closure is necessary to connect the new structure to the highway. As a result, for the first time since construction began, traffic will be diverted unto the new structure on that day.
Evondale Moody, Chief Engineer, MIDH
“Technically you can drive over the bridge, however our expectations is that we will allow traffic to move over the bridge I believe on the twenty-fifth of January. We are schedule that date. We still need to do the hot mix surface pavement on top of the deck which is basically the wearing course for the bridge’s deck. We expect to finish that on the twenty-fourth of this month. In an effort to tie in the southern approach of the bridge, the section going towards Belize City, we have to close the old bridge, because of the elevation of the new alignment coming off of the new bridge it will interact with the old alignment, because it is higher. And so, you will not be able to use the old bridge on the twenty-fifth. On that date we will shift traffic to the new structure even though we will have some minimal work to do. We will have to work with the traffic traversing that area, commencing on the twenty-fifth of January.”
