The 163rd Annual Belize/Honduras Methodist Conference
On Wednesday, Wesley Methodist Church hosted its one hundred sixty-third annual meeting of the Belize-Honduras District of Methodist Churches in the Caribbean and the Americas. The meeting was attended by nearly one hundred delegates hailing from northern and southern regions of Belize, as well as various parts of Honduras. It is part of a week-long conference, meant to celebrate the heritage of the church and encourage youths who are enrolled in Methodist school systems to socialize and form bonds through community building activities. We spoke with Bishop Moses Benguche of the Methodist Church to learn more about these events.
Moses Benguche, Bishop of the Methodist Church Belize & Honduras
“This is the time of the year when the Methodist Church in Belize and Honduras would meet for what we call our annual meetings and now we are engaged in what we call our conference, which meets every three years. And so we have delegates comprising some one hundred persons from across the country of Belize and across parts of Honduras, mainly La Ceiba, Roatan, and the island of Utila, who are coming together. And in our annual conference, we discuss the affairs of the church those challenges that we are facing, division planning for the next three years, the strategic planning that we will engage in as it will involve work amongst women, work amongst our men and work amongst our young people. And so we are coming together for this entire week. On Saturday and Sunday, is specifically when we will have the young people’s event and so they will have what we call our young people demonstration On the two days, but particularly on Sunday morning, we will engage the young people at Bird’s Isle and we will march through the streets of Belize City. So we are all excited about this and we are focusing on, in this conference and for this year, on our heritage, the heritage of the church. So we will be highlighting some of those things. We will be discussing some of those things. And we will also continue to share what it is we can do in order to foster and to encourage the heritage that has been bequeathed to us and where we can take it another mile of the way.”
