Henry Charles Usher, Minister of Public Service
“At its core, this program is designed to equip our officers with the skills, knowledge, and competencies necessary to excel in their roles. and navigate the ever evolving landscape of public administration with confidence and proficiency. As we look ahead to the journey that lies before us, it is essential to reflect on the foundational principles that underpin this transformative initiative. Among these principles, four key pillars emerge as central to our approach. Emotional intelligence, ethics, Professionalism and communication. Emotional intelligence is a critical skill that lies at the heart of effective leadership and interpersonal relationships. In the context of the public service, where interactions with colleagues, stakeholders, and the public are frequent and varied, the ability to navigate complex emotions, empathize with others, and communicate effectively are essential. Ethics, meanwhile, serve as the moral compass that guides our actions and decisions as public servants. And I said public servants for a reason. Upholding the highest standards of ethical conduct is not only a professional obligation, but a moral imperative ensuring transparency, accountability, and integrity in all that we do. Professionalism, characterized by a commitment to excellence, and continuous improvement is the hallmark of a successful public servant. By fostering a culture of professionalism within our ranks, we not only enhance the reputation of the public service, but also inspire confidence and trust in our ability to deliver results. Communication, both verbal and non verbal, lies at the heart of effective collaboration, coordination, and decision making within our teams and across departments. By honing our communication skills, we enhance our ability to convey ideas, share information, and build consensus, ultimately facilitating more efficient and effective service delivery”
