Mother of Electrocuted Man Questions the Scenario He Faced

Matura’s mother, Monica Hemmans told the media today that while she accepts that her son died as a result of an accident, she has more questions than the information that has been provided.  Hemmans says that her son was already working at the location and had only gone back to complete the job, but that when he got there, another person was also working at the site. It is clear that the safety breaker was not turned off when Matura’s body came in contact with a live wire or outlet. And it is reported elsewhere that Matura remarked before the incident that the voltage he was doing the repair on was only a one-ten, and that if it shocked him, it would have minimal effect on him. Hemmans said that had her son known that the situation posed a threat to his life, he would have exercised better precaution.

She asked him not to go to 8 miles and he insisted that he needed to go and finish up and he dropped her at the airport junction and he went through to 8 miles through the John Smith Road.”

“So this was a job that he had started before?”

Monica Hemmans

“He was working there but apparently somebody else was working there also before him, and he was supposed to do an LED light and fan connection. I don’t know what happened, but if there was something, such thing like that, the switch box was on and he got shocked. The breaker should have tripped and it didn’t. And it just leads me to wonder what exactly is happening there. I am asking BEL to please go and inspect the house. I think I deserve, as a mother, to know what really happened up there. And, I’m not getting answers. They said that they found him with a lot of wires around him. He was trying to trace something.  He called one of my cousin and asked him but the phone was breaking up and he told him he said you just wait till I get back and I don’t know what happened after that. He does, he, he does A. C. and refrigeration, and he does the electrician, the electric, electrical also too.”

“He was a certified electrician too?”

Monica Hemmans

“He was finishing up, he did the first part, but he been working. It was a simple thing, it was a simple thing to do. He’s been doing that for a couple of years.”

“And he was finishing up where?

Monica Hemmans

“He was finishing up at ITVET before the clearance for COVID. And he didn’t complete it, and he was to go back to finish, but he was working with a couple of family members that were electronic, licensed electronics electricians, sorry. And, they were assisting him. 0But I’m just asking everyone to just – every day you live your life like it’s the last. Because you don’t know. You don’t know when that time is coming.  Just live your day every day if it’s the last day, be nice and kind to people because you don’t know.”
