We also spoke with Henry Charles Usher, the Minister of Public Service about the delay these public servants have been experiencing in receiving their salary adjustments. Minister Usher and Cabinet have been accused of dragging their feet on resolving the matter after three years in government. Here is how he responded.

“One of the errors in the past is that they did piecemeal fixes to issues when they pop up. Whenever there was a hot button issue or something, quick fixes were attempted to be those issues. What we have been doing along with the joint union team is that we are looking at a comprehensive review of the pay scale of the salary structure throughout the public service. That review is ongoing. We hope to conclude it very soon and then we will see it fixed throughout the public service. We can’t continue this piece meal approach. As the AG rightly said, back in 2012 there was a memorandum sent out purporting to fix the anomalies.  It created even more because when you try to fix in one area, you have consequent areas that needs adjusting. So a comprehensive approach is preferable and that is what we are doing right now.”
