Belize City Youth on Remand for Aggravated Assault
Tonight, a Belize City youth is on remand at the Belize Central Prison after he allegedly attempted to shoot two men on East Collet Canal. Allegations are that on Saturday, twenty-year-old Jahleel Craig pointed a firearm at Norris Patnett and Norman Grant while they were in the area. Patnett told police that Grant got into the driver’s seat of a vehicle and while he was making his way to the passenger seat, Craig allegedly rode up to them on a bicycle and pulled a firearm from his waist. Patnett further alleged that Craig pulled the trigger but the gun snapped. Patnett says he ran for cover and Craig allegedly pulled the trigger a second time but the firearm failed to discharge once again. According to the men, Craig then rode off into George Street. Quick police response led to his arrest. This morning, Craig appeared before a Senior Magistrate where he pleaded not guilty to two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Due to the nature of the offenses bail was denied and Craig was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until March.
