Career criminal charged for Burglary and Theft
In other court news, this morning thirty-three year old Anthony Major was arraigned on charges of Burglary and Theft. Major pleaded not guilty to the crimes, but the Prosecution represented by Sergeant Kenneth Magdaleno objected to bail on the grounds that the career criminal has two convictions for Escape and Theft. Chief Magistrate Margaret McKenzie upheld the objection and remanded Major into custody until February twenty-sixth. Major’s burglary charges stem from an incident on January third. Seventy-one year old Ramon Cervantes, owner of Mundo Maya Deli on North Front Street reported to police that someone broke into his businesses. The thief or thieves made off with various items worth twelve thousand six hundred dollars. The theft occurred on January eighteenth. Twenty-four year old Juan Burgess told police that he was walking on Angel Lane when he was approached by Major, who asked for money. Burgess says he gave Major three dollars, but the man said it was not enough. Burgess alleges that when he walked off, Major followed him and ripped his gold chain from around his neck and ran off.
