… And 2 tourists die of heart attacks in San Pedro

Two American tourists had their vacations cut short after suffering heart attacks in San Pedro Ambergris Caye. Early Sunday morning fifty-nine year old Randall Eldon Daris, a guest at the Hotel Del Rio, began complaining to a family member of chest pains. San Pedro police and a doctor were called out but when they got there they found Daris, a resident of North Carolina, lying in his bed unconscious. Daris was pronounced dead at twelve-thirty that same morning.

Later that day, San Pedro police once again responded to a distress call, this time in the Buca Saga area of South Ambergris Caye. When they arrived at Casa Maria, the authorities found the lifeless body of fifty-four year old Rene Calvin of Arkansas lying on the floor. Like Daris, Calvin was also complaining of severe chest pain. He was apparently receiving treatment when he expired around one-forty-five. Both bodies have been transported to the K.H.M.H. where a post-mortem examination will be conducted.
