Teacher & friends charged with Handling Stolen Goods
Four persons, including a pre-school teacher, an office assistant at Sadie Vernon High School and their two friends were today charged with Handling Stolen Goods. The couple, Julia Santos and Dwayne White, appeared along with Marvin McFoy and Kurt Smith in the Magistrate Court where the charges were read against them. The city residents were arrested after the home of Jeneen Morrison of the Belama area was burglarized on December thirtieth. A number of items were stolen, including a laptop computer, a digital camera and a large assortment of jewelry. Morrison was not at home when the break-in occurred but investigations led police to the four who had her jewelry. The first to be detained was McFoy who led the cops to the remaining three. Santos, White and McFoy pleaded guilty to Handling Stolen Goods, but Smith pleaded not guilty. Magistrate Sharon Frazer imposed a non custodial sentence since none of the three had previous convictions. They were fined five hundred dollars each to be paid by mid February. Smith was offered bail and is to go back to court on March third.
