Charges dropped against tailor accused of fondling a minor
In news from the courts, a well-known and popular tailor of New Road in Belize City finally had his day for a charge of fondling a fourteen year old primary school girl back in June of 2009. It took months for the case to come to trial, but today fifty one year old amputee, Angel Arias, breathed a sigh of relief at the outcome. The charge of Assault of an indecent nature was withdrawn at the directive of the DPP. That’s because the child and her mother recently visited the DPP’s office and informed that they did not wish to proceed with the matter in court. On June fifteen 2009, Arias was escorted to the Belize City Magistrate’s Court after the girl reported to police that on the afternoon of June thirteenth, the tailor inappropriately touched her at his shop on New Road. She said she had gone there for school uniform measurements. After Arias was freed, he told News Five that he just wanted his name to be cleared and he maintained his innocence.
