Early morning fire guts house in San Pedro Town

Story PictureFire officials have not been able to determine the cause of a blaze that gutted a two storey wooden and plycem house in the D.F.C area of San Pedro Town early this morning. The blaze was first spotted around twelve-thirty and it took fire fighters three hours to extinguish it. By that time, a portion of the lower flat, occupied by businessman, Mohamed Harmouch was destroyed. Harmouch, who was asleep at the time, also lost a portion of his business, One Love Grocery Store. An annex also on the lower flat which was occupied by the owner of the building, Francisco Arceo, was also totally gutted. The upper flat of the house was occupied by police officer, David Jimenez. He was luckiest as he suffered no losses in the blaze. Arceo has estimated his property to value around fifty two thousand dollars. Meanwhile, Harmouch’s loss to his store alone is estimated at around forty thousand dollars. News Five understands that the blaze posed a major challenge for fire fighters because the area has no fire hydrants and the nearest water source was a lagoon, which is about a quarter mile away.
