One detained for National Transport robbery
Police may not have their main suspects in custody for a number of robberies in the past twenty-four hours, but they have made some inroads in the jacking of National Transports Limited at two and three quarter miles on the Western Highway. Officer Commanding the Crime Investigations Branch, Superintendent Julio Valdez, says they recovered the suspected getaway vehicle in Hattieville, but the license plates it now bears was not the original one issued.
Supt Julio Valdez, O.C., C.I.B.
“This grey Maxima that we have in custody led to some information received and that resulted in police visiting Hattieville where this vehicle was recovered which has been identified as the vehicle used in the getaway in this holding up of Novelo’s on the Western Highway.”
Marion Ali
“Okay, the people who were driving it, the suspects, were they also apprehended and where are they from?”
Supt. Julio Valdez
“At this point we have one person in custody who is being interviewed as we speak concerning the robbery who we believe is involved. Once we get through, he will be charged for that. We’re also looking for two other suspects who we believed were involved. From what we gathered and information from the investigation is at the time of the vehicle had no license plates but now it appears to have license place which is C-28892 and at the time of the robbery it had no license plate. We understand that after that they put on the license plate. That matter is still under investigation whether that license plate is for this vehicle.”
Marion Ali
“Is this a stolen vehicle?”
Supt. Julio Valdez
“I’m not sure at this time but it could be.”
Marion Ali
“Has any of the money been recovered?”
Supt. Julio Valdez
“We have recovered some of the money. Some of the money has been recovered—at this time not substantial—but we have recovered some of the money which led us to believe this money was stolen from the National Transport.”
Marion Ali
“So the suspect is cooperating if has led you to some of…”
Supt. Julio Valdez
“Well, I understand that the person we have in custody that is being interviewed, yes he is cooperating at this time.”
Marion Ali
“Has he confessed?”
Supt. Julio Valdez
“No, but he’s…”
Marion Ali
“Where was the money found?”
Supt. Julio Valdez
“It was found in a house in Hattieville.”
Marion Ali
“And was he at that house?”
Supt. Julio Valdez
“No, he was not at the house. It was information that told us that he does visit that house and that’s where also the vehicle was parked.”
Marion Ali
“The other people you are looking, they are from Hattieville?”
Supt. Julio Valdez
“I believe they are from Belize City.”
Marion Ali
“So they just have ties in Hattieville.”
Supt. Julio Valdez
“They have ties, yes. They use that as a hideout.”
Valdez says the person in custody is also from Belize City and he will be charged shortly.
