Africanized Bees kill man in Benque

Turning to the west, a man is dead after he was attacked and stung by Africanized bees in Benque Viejo del Carmen.  News Five has learned that at around midday today, seventy-seven year old Ramon Mendez and four friends were attacked by a swarm of bees at his farm on the hydro road while they were cutting firewood. Three of the men retreated to Mendez’ vehicle and the remaining two fled further in the jungle.  The three headed to the San Ignacio Town Hospital, but Mendez, who was stung numerous times, died on the way.  Another victim, Solomon Morales, is also being treated for the stings. The driver, Kenworth Mendez, who is Mendez’ nephew, is said to be out of harm’s way.  But now as night closes in, a search party involving police and agricultural officers are looking for the two men who sought refuge in the jungle.  Up to five-thirty this evening, they had not been located.
