C.J. speaks on appointment as Cayman Appellate judge

While he continues to serve as Belize’s Chief Justice Abdulai Conteh is also now serving as a Judge on the court of Appeals for the Cayman Islands as we reported back in December. And while Belize’s judiciary is faced with its own challenges and a voluminous number of cases, the C.J. says his appointment came after consultations with government and that it will not add to the existing problems.

Abdulai Conteh, Chief Justice
“After consultation with the relevant authorities here in Belize to assert that it was an honour to have Belize’s Chief Justice serve on the court of appeals of another jurisdiction. It was in this spirit that I accepted appointment last December to serve as a Justice of Appeal on the Cayman Court of Appeals. This, I want to assure you, will not in any way affect my duties and responsibilities as the sitting Chief Justice of Belize.”

Conteh took the oath of office as Cayman Islands’ newest Appellate Judge on December eleventh.
