Grace Kennedy cooks up a creative calendar

28-1-10-31Bringing good taste to life, that’s the slogan of Grace Kennedy Belize Limited. And that’s just what they did with their Creative Cooking Calendar that they launched today. It’s a tad late, but to make up, there are some interesting recipes all with Grace products. The company partnered with the Belize Hospital Auxiliary which contributed the recipes featured in the creative cooking calendar. At the launch today, Belize Hospital Auxiliary also released the fifth edition of their cookbook. The book features two hundred and eighty-two Belizean recipes and sells for fifteen dollars. Proceeds from all sales go to the Belize Hospital Auxiliary to fund their work in providing medical assistance to less fortunate persons. News Five attended the launch where the sponsors were treated to a sample of a few goodies from the cookbook.

“We’re looking at ways to promote our products and one of the best ways was partnering with the Belize Hospital Auxiliary, who had produced a great cookbook which has been around in Belize for many years and we said let’s take on the fifth edition and we did so. What we brought to the table was the marketing, the coordinating of the sponsorships, the editing, which is a lot of work went into the editing and it’s continuous and as well the distribution.  To date, we printed two thousand cookbooks and as of this morning, we have distributed over nine hundred cookbooks within a month and a half, of course the Christmas season being the peak time. So it came out the right time and the funds that are raised from the sale goes towards the Belize Hospital Auxiliary and they help with medical needs for those people who would not be able to afford so.”

“The cookbook is our fundraiser, one of our fundraisers, and as you heard today they are selling very well and I’m very happy about that. The cookbook has been with us for a very long time and it has been a constant fundraiser for us.”

“You were also presented with a cheque from the sales so far. Do you have any projects pending that those funds will go to?”

Magda Burgos

“At this point in time we have to regroup and think about how we’re going to spend these funds. There are some ideas out there and as a group the members will have to decide what to do.”

“We said let’s continue to build on the relationship. Why not use the recipes and feature them in our creative cooking calendar and we did so. There are twelve recipes, most of which comes from the cookbook and it has some information on the organization.”

This year’s calendar is perforated down the middle so the recipes can be saved when the calendar half is discarded at the end of 2010.
