Guatemalan bodega confirmed to be in Belizean territory
It’s been a thorn in the side of Belizeans since December and tonight the governments of Belize and Guatemala have officially been informed that the bodega near Jalacte is entirely within Belizean territory. An on-site verification of the storage container, constructed illegally by Guatemalan Leonel Arellano, was conducted by the O.A.S. office at the Adjacency Zone. Arellano has been informed that the structure will be dismantled and the container removed… both governments are also in agreement that the building has to go. When will it go, however, is another matter. According to a press release, the O.A.S. has requested more time to “properly coordinate with all relevant authorities to ensure that the dismantling of the construction is conducted without incident.” In the meantime, a B.D.F. contingent is posted full time at the site to prevent further activities at the site. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says it is taking all steps to remove the construction as quickly as possible.
