Body of drowning victim recovered

Story PictureTonight the family of Darwin Grey has closure. The body of the twenty-three year old was discovered this morning floating in the Mopan River. Grey’s corpse was transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where at post-mortem investigation was conducted this afternoon. It is there that News Five caught up with the Grey’s brother, Kenyatta Garnett.

“Dis morning ih happened to show up. Wah neighbour see ah, wah gentleman and wen he si ah he inform di police. I was at the station at the time, so the police inform me and we went out there and saw that it was him and they had to go for the scenes of crime personnel. So when they went for him, came back, we identify ah and took him to di San Ignacio Hospital where they had him stored for a little while for us before we had a vehicle went up to Cayo and pick him up and bring him down here. The post mortem was conducted a little while ago so I ask Mr. Estradabran if he suspect anything and he said everything was clear. I spoke to officer as well and everything was clear so no foul play. So we’re happy with that as well. The guy he gone wid dah one ah ih best friend so we noh expect nothing. So far we just di get ready now fi put ah inna di ground and keep we family together as well.”

The family expects to bury Grey on Saturday. The young man is said to have slipped under the water and did not resurface on Monday night when he was swimming from Melchor to Belize. Grey set out to Melchor along with four others.
