Couple jailed for possession of gun and ammo
A forty-nine year old Belize City resident and his thirty-five year old girlfriend will spend a month behind bars for being in possession of ammunition, a nine millimetre pistol and point six grams of cocaine. Today, businessman Wayne Yorke and his girlfriend Reina Cruz appeared in the Magistrates’ Court where they pleaded not guilty to the charges. The incident occurred during a police search at Dingus McGee Restaurant and bar on Seashore Drive on the night of December tenth, 2008. When Yorke and Cruz were searched, the cops found the bullets in their vehicle and the cocaine and a pipe on Yorke. As a result, the businessman was additionally charged with Possession of Cocaine and a Pipe and Committing a Mischievous Act. The duo is scheduled to return to court on February ninth.
Yorke’s troubles were not over as he reappeared in court shortly after to answer to two counts of Obtaining property by Deception. The allegation is that between September and October of last year, Yorke went to Food and Beverage on New Road and purchased approximately one thousand five hundred dollars worth of groceries which he paid with cheques that bounced. Yorke also pleaded not guilty to these charges and is scheduled to return to court on February sixteenth.
