P.U.P. councillor candidates say city is ready for change

Story PictureAccording to statistics from the Elections and Boundaries, there are thirty-seven thousand nine hundred and ninety-one registered voters in the commercial city, which means that the campaign will be more intense for the two political parties. The blue ticket includes a mix of old and new faces such as Danny Madrid, Jackie Welch, Marvin Otley, Robert Henry, Roberto Ortiz, Robert “Bobby” Cadle, Alberto Vellos, Keith Acosta, Dana Codd, Dorla Vaughn, and Ernesto Torres. Accompanied by the aspiring Mayoral candidate, some of the team dropped by Channel Five today to say why Belize City residents should choose them on March fourth.

Ernesto Torres, P.U.P. Councillor Candidate
“I bring to Belize City, the residents of Belize City, a very, very, very good track record when it comes to traffic management. I was the chief licensing officer some years ago. Today we have traffic lights in Belize City, we have roundabouts like the one at Belcan Bridge, our streets were made two way streets from one way streets, we have the Traffic Department. All of these things, I have accomplished in my terms in office and there is more and more we need to do.”

Roberto Ortiz, P.U.P. Councillor Candidate
“I bring hard work, dedication and honesty. Yes, our People’s United Party suffered the worst defeat in 2008 elections and one year almost after, we have not seen any the promises they gave has been fulfilled. Cost of living noh gone down yet, we’ve seen people jobs being slashed down, we have not seen houses going up; they promised so much houses that they were gonna be building up. They gave us so much lies and that is where our hope lies. The Peoples’ United Party is rising and it’s rising with young qualified individuals who are ready to take the job for the city council.”

Robert Bobby Cadle, P.U.P. Councillor Candidate
“The reason why I’m running for City Council is because I believe we have a team of substance, a team of interpersonal skills; we can do better for this city to upgrade the city with the different conditions which we are living under right now; the garbages, the bad streets. I think we have a dynamic team that can bring victory for the people of Belize City.”

Jose Sanchez
“Do you think the people are ready for a change back to the P.U.P.?”

Robert “Bobby” Cadle
“I think so, I mean, like I said this is a new vibrant party. We have new leadership under the Right Honourable Johnny Briceño and I believe with that and Mr. Chubby Reneau, we can make change.”

Jose Sanchez
“Why do you think the public is ready to return to the P.U.P.?”

Marvin Otley, P.U.P. Councillor Candidate
“Well, basically I think when you look at it the management of the city has been so bad and a lot of people are upset. People have been crying out day after day on the radio that their garbage had not been picked up, their streets are not paved and cleaned, their drains clogged up. I think that’s one of the primary reasons and that’s our job to come out to people and ensure them that that the kind of change we will bring.”

Dorla Vaugh, P.U.P. Councillor Candidate
“I’m here today supporting the People’s United Party, running as a candidate to stand up and defend the single mothers of Belize City that were laid off from the Belize City Council three years ago.”

Jose Sanchez
“Why do you think the general public will make the change so quickly back to the P.U.P.?”

Alberto Vellos. P.U.P. Councillor Candidate
“I think the public will really look at what happened over the last few years. Our city has been abandoned, our needs have been neglected as a people, our young people have been left astray, crime has surged in the city. They might say they’re not responsible for crime, but they are responsible for this city and crime is a problem in this city. Our people need help, our young mothers have been fired from jobs; that victimization. And this team—this team stands for everything that that group doesn’t believe in.”

Next we will follow the U.D.P. ticket.
