Will B.N.T.U. reign over the Capital on Friday?
Still, the Ministry of Education will proceed with the bill to the House but it may not be smooth sailing because the B.N.T.U.’s membership is said to be organizing to go to the Hill. The union says it needs time, at least six months to review the Bill.

“Corporal punishment has been on the education system for all the years. Now the minister is suggesting that we need six months to create a working group so that they can explore the alternative ways. Isn’t it more sensible that this should have been done before and if it’s being done now it is going to take a little longer? We are not concerned about finding what is there, we know what is there. We are teachers, we know what is there. What we want is for structures to be in place and for sure structures can’t take—cannot happen within six months. So we have to be realistic and practical with the issue of corporal punishment.”
