Two charged for shooting seventeen year old
Two men, twenty year old Kenroy Humes and twenty-one year old Kareem “Stamma” Smith, who allegedly shot seventeen year old Justin Roches in the right side of his abdomen, were charged with Attempted Murder when they appeared today in Magistrates’ Court. They were also charged with Conspiracy to Commit Murder, Dangerous Harm and Use of Deadly Means of Harm. No plea was taken from them because the offences are indictable. Neither could the court offer them bail because of the nature of the offences. They were remanded into custody until February eleventh.
The incident occurred about seven-thirty p.m. on New Years Day, as we reported in our newscast yesterday. Roches, a Wesley College student, was at a friend’s house on Louis Street when he was dragged outside by Humes and Smith who began to beat him with a chrome pistol. Four shots were fired from close range, one of which struck Roches. Roches was taken to Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where his wound was classified as dangerous harm. Smith was recently charged with conspiracy in connection with the grenade attack on Mayflower Street which killed one person and injured eleven others. Smith was also convicted of possession of an unlicensed gun while on remand for the conspiracy charge. On the other hand, Humes was charged with the murder of Gilbert Phillips in 2006. Humes was freed of that charge and Smith was recently released on bail for his offences.
