Belizean arraigned for accident that killed Mexican national
A Penal judge in Chetumal, Quintana Roo has found enough evidence to arraign Samuel August for the death of Mexican national, Mario Aguilar Chan. The Belizean has now been charged with Manslaughter. In the early morning hours of December eighteenth, August was driving a Blue Bird minibus when upon reaching kilometer two hundred and sixty-five, he made a left u-turn which caused Aguilar Chan, who was driving his motorcycle in the opposite direction, to crash into the bus. Chan died instantly, while Jose Hidalgo Miranda, who was in accompanying him on the motorcycle, received serious injuries.
August was detained after the accident and held at the Social Re-adaptation Centre of Chetumal. When he was then taken before the First Penal Judge, his vehicle was confiscated and the charge of Manslaughter was read to him. August, in his defense before the judge, argued that he was not responsible for the accident. The prosecution thought otherwise. August was granted bail since the crime was not considered to be serious in the Penal Code of the State. However, he had forty-eight hours to come up with the cash and he wasn’t able to make the deadline. August is still incarcerated at the Social Re-adaptation Centre of Chetumal.
