Attempted car jacking foiled by accident
Two traffic accidents were reported in the city on New Year’s Day. The first incident occurred around six-forty a.m. as a red Toyota Camry was being stolen from the parking lot of the Palm Island Night Club. The jackers were leaving the driveway when a black Rodeo was coming from the north interrupted the theft by colliding into the car. The Rodeo flipped and landed back on its four wheels. News Five was on the scene and spoke with Elvis Baldizon who says that he was flabbergasted when he saw his crashed Camry.
Elvis Baldizon, Vehicle-Theft Victim
“We were at Palm Island and I left my vehicle parked inside of the wall—I left my keys inside so I decided to go cause I can’t do anything about it. Then I decided I was going to come back for it and then. So I came back this morning cause I had no one to bring me yesterday and this is what I found. That my vehicle was so crashed. As far as I hear, someone was trying to steal the car apparently. Like they said the car came out from somewhere. As far as I’m concerned, I know I left the car parked inside.”
Although no one has been detained for the alleged theft, it is known that Troy Ferguson and a friend were travelling in the rodeo. And on impact with the Toyota Camry, both received minor injuries. They were treated at the K.H.M.H. and subsequently released. Ferguson’s girlfriend gave us the details.
Leslie Sanchez, Girlfriend
“My boyfriend called me and told me that he was in an accident. Apparently, while coming down on the Northern Highway, a vehicle came out of Palm Island under speed and he didn’t saw the vehicle coming. At that point he did not see anything on the road and he just took a blink—at the blink of an eye, he saw the vehicle and then at that point it was too late for him to press brakes and the rodeo flipped over.”
Duane Moody
“Flipped and landed on its wheels right?”
Leslie Sanchez
“Yes. After the vehicle turned over, he was unconscious for a while and when he got up that was when he borrowed someone’s phone and called me. At that point, someone was in the vehicle with him but the person already left. The person driving the vehicle that came out of Palm Island already left. He was the only one on the scene.”
Ferguson received a deep wound on his eyes and cuts on his hands. The driver of the stolen vehicle has still not been located.
