Nineteen year old drowns near Calla Creek Village
One of the first deaths recorded in 2009 was the drowning of a San Ignacio teen. On Thursday afternoon, eighteen year old Essner Calderon and nineteen year old Jorge Chuc went swimming in the waters off Calla Creek Village. Calderon reported to police that Chuc suddenly disappeared under water and did not resurface. Calderon searched the area but could not find his friend. After an extended effort by authorities, Chuc’s body was retrieved from the water just after five p.m. that same day and now awaits a post-mortem examination.
