Fire destroys home in Lindo’s Alley
Thick smoke and flames coming from a house on Lindo’s Alley early this morning alerted the neighborhood to the fire that gutted everything inside the wooden building. The fire service responded and managed to put out the blaze before it could spread to any of the nearby buildings, but they have not yet been able to ascertain what caused the fire. According to Training Officer for the National Fire Service, they still do not know who is the owner or the caretaker of the house.
Kenneth Mortis, Training Officer, National Fire Service
“This morning we got a call for a fire on Lindo’s Alley indeed and when we got there we saw heavy smoke and flames emitting from the roof and windows of the wooden structure, which was situated at number sixteen. Our team got into operation in extinguishing and containing this fire, confined it to just a single structure after which an investigation commenced. From that we learned that the building was being taken care of by a Mr. Glenmore Stevens who, unfortunately was not at home at the time the blaze started. Particulars pertaining to the owner and the insurance and loss of value and what not, have not been gathered as yet. Mr. Stevens hasn’t been found from then until now.

We’re hoping that we can find him and those are the primary answers that we need from him. We do know that the house had no electricity. We learnt from neighbours that Mr. Stevens use of electricity was through a candle or a kerosene lamp so it is under speculation as to whether or not Mr. Stevens did leave any of these items lighted when he exited the building prior to the fire.”

“Everything inside was destroyed?”
Kenneth Mortis
“Whatever household items in the house were destroyed. It had in pretty much a single bed and just some of Mr. Stevens clothes and so forth. Nothing per say—it was an abandoned house so it was only what he needed to make himself comfortable.”

“Nothing so far to suspect arson or anything?”
Kenneth Mortis
“No, we have nothing to suspect arson. We did a thorough check of the building; the debris and what not. We have no reason or no cause to support that this is an arson.”
