Tips for travelling to Mexico this Christmas
If you’re transiting through Mexico this holiday season, here are some tips for a smooth ride. Belizeans are advised that they will be required to present certain documentation on entry at Subteniente Lopez on the northern border. The Mexican Embassy is advising drivers entering the state of Quintana Roo including Chetumal, Bacalar, Mahahual, Tulum, Playa del Carmen and Cancun, to have in hand a valid driver’s license and original property certificate of their vehicles. If the vehicle is not yours then you will be required to present, a written authorization from the owner along with the original certificate. Drivers are also required to have third party insurance. Those traveling further to other states will be required to pay a fee for a temporary import and a guarantee covered with a credit card or in cash, at the Mexican Customs office at the Subteniente Lopez. Upon exiting Mexico, the driver will be required to return the temporary import documents and the guarantee and will get a refund.
