Half the country experienced one hour power loss
But back at home, there was an interruption to the power supply from the north all the way to the Belize District that lasted just under one hour today. B.E.L. issued a prompt statement to say it was caused by a trip in the Mexican system operated by the Comision Federal de Electricidad, C.F.E. That was the technical information supplied by B.E.L., but we note that press reports say Mexico is bracing for huge protests resulting from the closure of the state-run power distribution company, called Luz y Fuerza. This company supplied electricity to Mexico City and the surrounding region and was closed a few days ago due to a one point nine billion dollar losses yearly. We point this out because C.F.E. has been called in to fill in the supply of electricity to the affected region in Mexico. Whether or not this will have relevance to its power supply to Belize is not known but it can be said that when C.F.E. sneezes, we catch a cold. When we checked with B.E.L. we were told this afternoon that it was in communication with C.F.E. on this matter.
