WinBelize and Mexican Embassy’s cultural event

As you may know by now, March is Women’s Month. The activities to celebrate the achievements of women are moving full steam ahead. The Women’s Issues Network (WinBelize) has been leading the charge in promoting issues affecting girls and women. WinBelize, through support from the Mexican Embassy, is hosting a fundraising event on Saturday night. The Mexican Cultural Institute on Princess Margaret Drive will be the center of Mexican music, food and displays. According to Katie McFarland of WinBelize, the proceeds of the event will support all the successful programs initiated by the group.

“Tomorrow March twentieth, we are collaborating with the Mexican Institute, we being the Women’s Issues Network and we are having a fundraising event to celebrate women. The name of the event is Fiesta de Mujeres because it will be a Mexican themed night. We’re gonna have Mexican Food, Mexican entertainment, and it’s also going to be an opportunity to showcase the work of WinBelize that they do here and throughout the country.”

“What kind of work has WinBelize been doing?”

“WinBelize is the secretariat of a lot of member organizations that exist throughout Belize. some of our member agencies are Alliance Against Aids, Belize Family Life Association, BEST, and the work of Win is to coordinate and facilitate the work of these agencies. So we work against gender based violence, domestic violence, providing support for teens who are in situations or teenage pregnancy; all those sort of things.”

“Who do you expect to come out tomorrow?”

“It’s going to be a celebration of women, women’s month. We are encouraging the whole family to come out, kids, men who want to celebrate with the women, or women who want to celebrate themselves. We’re expecting any and everyone to come out for our event.”
The four hour event starts at six. The cost is thirty dollars which includes food and a beverage. A cash bar will also be available.
