Yabra Community Policing Unit holds food and toy drive
Christmas shopping is in full swing, but not everyone can afford to purchase those new curtains, Marley, or even turkey and ham… With that fact in mind, the Yarborough Community Policing Unit in cooperation with various members of the business community embarked a food and toy drive. According to coordinator, Corporal Darius Martinez, they intend to give less fortunate families in the community at least three hundred dollars worth of items for the holidays.

“We have forty-eight boxes and in the boxes we estimate the boxes to have three hundred worth of items which include rice, beans, flour, sugar, most of the basics; sweet soaps, toothbrush, Colgates and toiletries, so to speak.”

“We will be giving out toys. It will be for needy family likewise, not because you get a box, you will get toys.”

“What made you guys take on this initiative?”
Cpl. Darius Martinez
“Since we have officers in different zones, Belize is divided into six zones and we have officers in each zone. They go about and do assessments in poverty and truancy likewise and then they find out that you have families that don’t have anything to eat. We decided to beg the business community so in order to have this drive successful.”
The boxes of rations and toys will be delivered to the recipients on Monday evening at three.
