Private car and Ladyville bus collide on the Northern Highway

accident 1accident 2Just before news time, rush hour traffic along the Northern Highway near mile seven was backed up several hundred yards when an oil slick caused a vehicle heading in the direction of Ladyville to collide into an oncoming bus.  While there were no injuries the Dodge Neon driven at the time by Arlow Wallace was extensively damaged.  Wallace, who spoke with News Five off record, told us he did what he could have to avoid frontal impact.

“I just, I come round di curve, di road mi full ah oil. Some piece ah metal burst di waste pan fi wah bus and di same piece a metal weh burst di waste pan fi di bus, give me wah blow out. Di oil slick cause me fi skate straight into wah bus weh mi di come inna di opposite direction. Dat dah basically it. I swerve weh as much as possible fi avoid wah head on collision but dat dah bout it.”

Isani Cayetano

“Was there anyone travelling in your vehicle along with you?”

Arlow Wallace

“No, me alone.”

Isani Cayetano

“What were the extent of damages to your vehicle?”

Arlow Wallace

“Well, basically totalled buddy. Totalled. Di bus noh really got much damage if yoh notice but di car totalled.”

Isani Cayetano

“Can you tell me if there was anyone travelling in the bus along with the driver at the time?”

Arlow Wallace

“I think so. I think I saw passengers getting off the bus. I’m not hundred percent on that but I’m almost certain they had passengers on the bus. But, like I said, di bus neva really get much knock because I swerve weh and yoh could check di bus really and si di extent ah di damages.”

Highway patrol responded to the scene of the accident shortly afterwards and were taking statements from the drivers who were involved in the collision.
