Belmopan house up in flames; restaurant blaze contained
In related news, in Belmopan at around midday on Friday the home of Dolly Chan of Iguana Street went up in flames. The cement structure was completely gutted when according to the forty-two year old mother, her eight year old son, Nestor, accidentally fell off a chair on top of the butane tank in the kitchen area. A hose disconnected from the stove and the fire broke. The minor sustained first degree burns to his face and hands and the contents of the house was destroyed. According to Chan, the household items are valued at twenty-thousand dollars and the uninsured house was worth seventy-five thousand dollars.
And in the other incident on Saturday in the Orange Walk District, fire fighters prevented a blaze from spreading in the Sun Luck Restaurant located on Zericote Street. According to waitress, Elizabeth Shaw, she saw fire and smoke coming from the kitchen area and called for help. The fire was contained before it spread beyond the kitchen, but, the damages so far are in excess of twenty-thousand dollars.
