Two minors rob man of gun and $54,000 chain
Also appearing in court today were two teens who robbed a man of a gun and a chain that is allegedly worth more than your average car. The sixteen and fifteen year olds were charged with the robbery of a gold and diamond chain valued at a whopping fifty four thousand dollars and a nine millimeter pistol from its owner, Garath Gentle senior. Because of their age they were taken to the Belize Family Court before Magistrate Alberta Perez.
At about seven-twenty p.m. on December fifth, Garath was at Dorian’s Barber Shop on East Canal Street waiting to get a haircut when the two youths approached him. Gentle said one of them took out a pistol pointed it at his face while the other one ripped his diamond studded gold chain from around his neck. The boy then stole Gentle’s licensed nine millimeter pistol from his side and also took his Motorola cell phone. The youth then pointed his pistol at the patrons in the barber shop before escaping on Orange Street. On Saturday, December thirteenth, the police detained the minors who were identified by Gentle in an ID parade. The two were remanded in custody at Youth Hostel until January thirtieth, 2009. The police say they are looking for a third culprit they believe was involved in the incident.
