St John’s Vianney jacked overnight
Schools around the country are preparing to recess for the end of year holidays and the kids are in a festive mood. But that is not the case for St. John’s Vianney Primary School on Fabers Road in the Port Loyola Area. Sometime between ten last night and seven-thirty this morning, the school was jacked by robbers who apparently were looking for cash and instead found blank cheques. According to one eye witness last night, two men were seen scouring the area during a variety show and police believe they may be the culprits. Vice-Principal, Rosamond Perez, says she was flabbergasted by what she saw since when she left the compound after ten last night everything was fine…
Rosamond Perez, Vice Principal, St. John Vianney
“I got here this morning about seven-thirty and when I got here, I saw the locks were missing and that’s when I pulled back. I know for a fact a radio is missing, some food items are missing from the office because we are having a teachers’ dinner tomorrow so we already purchased some food; that is missing. The bag that had one hundred and fifty cheque leaves were in the bag. I haven’t found that as yet, but we’re in the process of searching for those things. Maybe by luck we will come up with them. We have thirty already signed for teacher’s salary for tomorrow. Those have one signature; those cheques require two signatures, Mr. Sutherland’s and myself.”
Felix Sutherland, Principal, St. John Vianney
“The place is all ransacked and certainly it wasn’t like that when we left last night.”
Duane Moody
“Ransacked? What do you mean by that?”
Felix Sutherland
“All turned over files, drawers, the whole place is a mess.”
Rosamond Perez
“We do have an alarm system and they tore that completely down. They took out everything. It went off, according to the neighbour, it went off two times last night after eleven. They didn’t inform Mr. Sutherland, they didn’t inform the police. That’s how they got in and they dismantled the alarm—the alarm and the bars.”
Duane Moody
“They soldered it or something of the sort?”
Rosamond Perez
“I have no idea whether it was a solder or it was with a mall or something. I have no idea. They also took all the keys for the building, for all the classrooms. All the keys are missing for this building the back building and the middle building. All those keys are missing right now, as it is. We can’t find them.”
The robbers made away with a few items and left behind the computer, printer and other valuable office equipment. Police are advising financial institutions that if any of the cheques surface, it should be reported to the proper authorities.
