If you are a jazz aficionado, there is an upcoming event this weekend that you just can’t miss, particularly since the proceeds will go to help persons afflicted with HIV/AIDS. And there is much, much more happening around Belize, Saffiyah has details.
Hey I’m Safiyyah and this is What’s Happening Belize.
Well you’ve heard me talk about it before, but it’s finally here. This Saturday is the lighted boat parade held in San Pedro. We spoke to one of the coordinators and she told us this…
Jan Brown, Coordinator, Lighted Boat Parade
“I’m here to invite everybody to come over and join us for our third annual San Pedro Holiday Boat Parade. We are in our third year of having the lighted boats go up and down the shore line starting at seven o’clock in the evening and this will usher in our holiday season. And the boat parade is on December sixth. That will be on a Saturday night this year.”
“We have specials on both the airlines, we have specials with both the water taxis and also we have a wonderful set up of our hotel specials. So we make it easy for you to come over and spend the Saturday night with us, spend the weekend with us and have a grand time on the beach. Last year we had close to six thousand people watching this up and down the beach. It was really quite the spectacular event.”
“We have cash prizes to share. That will be for boast of all different sizes; sailboats, catamarans, power boats, we even have one for man power if we can have somebody in the parade with lights that will have a kayak or a canoe. So you have the option of being able to win. There’ll be prizes for the best overall, the best religion, and we even have one for try harder next year for someone who doesn’t have quite enough lights but they’ll do it again next year. We have an exciting new division this year for our schools and it’s called the junior division. They will compete just for the trophies and the prize money for their. So it’s a very exciting time. When the parade is over people will be invited to Central Park, we will have a Disc Jockey, we will have the award ceremony, our alliance club is having a fund raiser that evening by sponsoring a cash bar and we will have cheerful setting, we’ve got food all over and it’s going to be a glorious event.”
So everyone is invited out to San Pedro to enjoy the lighted boat parade this Saturday night. There will also be a lighted boat parade coming up in Dangriga on the twenty-first of December. I’ll give you more details about that later.
In Belize City at the House of Culture this Saturday night, there will be a Bruk Dong competition and bram. The cost to enter is ten dollars to enter for adults and five dollars for children. The fun will start at six p.m. It’s a fun event that will really be celebrating Belizean culture, so take out the family and check it out.
The Living with Hope Foundation would like to invite everyone out to their Jazz Dinner and Dance being held on Saturday night at old Belize. The dinner will begin at seven-thirty p.m. and will feature music from Belizean jazz musicians. It’s for a good cause so you should go out and support it. Also on Saturday the Holy Redeemer Christmas Bazaar will be held starting at four p.m. If you’re interested they will be selling turkey dinner and barbecue from earlier in the day around lunch time. At the bazaar itself, there will be lots of food and drinks on sale as well as games, music and even a Santa for the kids.
