“China” suffers a bullet to the shoulder

And a Belize City woman who has had various run-ins with the law fell victim to gunfire this past Wednesday evening. She is thirty-two year old Joeth Pratt, A.K.A. China. Just after four-thirty p.m. on Wednesday Pratt went to a neighbour’s house at the corner of Faber’s Road and Nurse Findley Crescent and seconds after she got there, shots were fired and one bullet caught her on the left shoulder. The woman who assisted Pratt offered News Five an off-camera interview of what transpired.

“Ih ask me fi mek I charge ih phone fi ah so I tek ih phone and I ker it inside fi charge. And as I plug it in and she sit down deh, when I listen my husband seh gunshot and I seh no, dah pop shot. And den I hear di next one and I still di run out thinking dah pop shot and he seh dat dah noh pop shot, dat dah gun. So I di run out fi come si dah what, I neva even know dah inna my yard. When I look as I di run out, she run in by di door and she seh please help mi because somebody want kill me. And when I look I si di lot ah blood so I grab ah and I tell ah lets go mek I ker ah cross by di health center. But ih seh because di young man weh want shoot ah deh inna di yard. So I tell ah well sit down and I put ah fi sit down right by di door and I halla fi di nurse and ask dehn fi mek dehn call di ambulance and dehn seh dehn done call di ambulance and di police. And so di police dehn come and dehn ker ah.”

Pratt was identified and charged with robbery and aggravated assault for the 2001 jacking of Femagra Industries and with Attempted Robbery, Wounding and Aggravated Assault for the attempted jacking of Excellent Diner. Pratt was recently released from prison and moved to Nurse Findley Street.
