Sadie Vernon passes at age 90…

She published her autobiography, IN-TRANSIT: The Story of a Journey on October thirty-first, 2000. The document records the colourful life of Sadie Vernon, a lifelong educator and author. And tonight, it is with sadness that we report her demise.

Sadie Vernon passed away around two on Monday afternoon after suffering from pneumonia. She was ninety years old. In her lifetime, Sadie Vernon was also known as a nurse, community worker and preacher. She impacted Belize with all the social and educational programs she was able to help develop. In honour of her tireless contribution to education in Belize, a school which started in the early 60’s at the Y.W.C.A building on Saint Thomas Street in Belize City, was renamed in her honour, Sadie Vernon High.

That school is now located at the corner of Morning Glory and Partridge Streets in Belize City. And so her family and colleagues in education will gather at Saint John’s Cathedral in Belize City at two on Friday afternoon in thanksgiving for the life of the lady who thought that every bad experience in life helped to mould a better person out of her.
