Herman Lanza back in court for attempted murder
Three years ago he was happy to be freed of an attempted murder charge, but that same charge has come back to haunt Herman Lanza. It was déjà vu for the thirty-four year old because the charges were reinstated by the Director of Public Prosecutions Cheryl Lyn Branker Taitt.
Lanza was arraigned in the Magistrates’ Court with the attempted murder of Dean Bennett which occurred on August twenty-first, 2005. He was also charged with grievous harm and use of deadly means of harm. Bennett told the police that he was walking on Gibnut Street when he met Lanza. An altercation broke out between them and Bennett claims Lanza stabbed him in his chest, abdomen and legs. Bennett was examined by a doctor who classified his injuries as grievous harm. Lanza’s attorney, Dickie Bradley, had sought to get bail for him. But based on submissions made by Sergeant Frank Augustine, who represented the prosecution, Magistrate Tracy Sosa denied Lanza bail and remanded him into custody until January second, 2009.
