Wilfred Peters is known for old time classics such as Solomon Gyah and the more recent hits like Run Mister Peters Run. Earlier this month the King of BrukDong Music celebrated his seventy ninth birthday. His peers have been acknowledging his contribution to the development of his unique musical genre all month long. The National Institute of Culture and History is also recognizing Peter’s for his cultural contribution. The Institute of Creative Arts has teamed up with the House of Culture to host a concert in Peter’s honor. The concert will take Mister Peter’s and concert goers to his hometown of Gracie Rock Village. The activities coordinator for the House of Culture explained what concert goers should expect to see this Friday night at Gracie Rock.

“The Full Moon Concert series started one year ago by NICH. It was organized by the Institute of Creative Arts and House of Culture. We started here at the House of Culture grounds and we recruit various artists from all the ethnic groups in Belize City. This Full Moon for the Month of April will be held in Gracie Rock. We will celebrate and appreciate Mister Peters for his contribution to Belize.”

“Why Gracie Rock?”
Phyllis Lightburn Butler
Why Gracie Rock? Because we have to remember the people in the rural areas; everything can’t be in Belize City. We have to focus on the Belize District and we are starting with the Sibun area, the village area. And Mister Peters is from the village of Gracie Rock. So we are taking the Full Moon there and the villagers from Gracie Rock will come out with the support of the village council will come out and appreciate mister peters along with the performers like Harrison King, the Malantee Drummers and Dancers, the Belize Dance Company, the Vibration Band and other performers. So we are inviting the public to come and celebrate and appreciate Mister Peters. The concert is free. Entrance is free. Transportation will be available from Pound Yard to Western Paradise, Hattieville, BriansVille into Gracie Rock and then from Mahogany Heights into Gracie Rock going and returning to your destination.”
The free concert in Mister Peter’s honor is Friday thirtieth at Gracie Rock starting at seven p.m. The village council will be preparing food and drinks for sale.
