Cop accused of extorting businessman

Also coming up in court, is a case of extortion in which a policeman who felt that he had used the system to benefit himself finds that he is instead the subject of prosecution for the offense. The incident in question occurred on Sunday at the Northern Highway checkpoint. Police say they stopped and checked a vehicle driven by businessman, Ayte Klin- Kelat of New Horizon Investments on the Northern Highway. During the check, cops observed that Kelat’s insurance had expired and they subsequently summoned him to appear in court on Thursday. But at around two-thirty this afternoon, Police Constable, thirty-three year old Marlon Harris allegedly visited Kelat’s at his residence and told him that he would make the court matter disappear for a hundred dollars. Kelat seemed to play along, but before he handed over the blue note to Harris, he jotted down the serial number and notified the police. And now Harris will need much more than the hundred dollar bill to put up a defense in court. Shortly after he left Kelat’s house, fellow cops apprehended Harris and confiscated the hundred dollar bill. Harris is now detained pending charges.
