Ryan Horne declared fit to stand trial for murder

Story PictureHe stabbed two sisters to death in cold blood and now a doctor has declared him fit to stand trial after spending more than two years in prison awaiting trial. Ryan Horne is accused of brutally stabbing the Esquivel sisters, seventeen year old Rosa and eighteen year old Sandra without any apparent provocation while they were at their home at the corner of Euphrates Avenue and Dean Street in Belize City on May twenty-second, 2006.

A jury of seven women and five men agreed today that Horne, who was diagnosed as having paranoid schizophrenia, is fit to face the murder charges against him. The jury made the decision after Dr. Emilio Molina, the psychiatrist who examined Horne, took the witness stand and testified that Horne was not suffering from any delusions or hallucinations and he was not psychotic. Horne’s trial will begin on Monday, December first, in the court of Justice Adolph Lucas. He is being represented by attorney Alifa Elrington. Crown Counsel Nadine Palacio will represent the prosecution.
