Random shootings in Santa Elena leaves 3 injured
In last night’s newscast we reported a shooting on Carmen Street in Santa Elena, Cayo in which two persons were shot. And tonight there is another report that a third individual was shot on the same street just minutes before. Eighteen year old Christine Dawson was walking with a friend at about eight-thirty p.m. on the Wednesday, when Jorge Galindo rode up on his motorcycle. Shots rang out, Galindo fell to the ground with a gunshot to his buttocks, and when Christine ran to his side she realized that she had also been shot. Police now say that ten minutes before, fifty year old David Young was driving his Ford Explorer on the same street when a single shot was fired towards his vehicle. The bullet hit the gypsy window, entered through the back of the driver’s seat and hit him in his left upper back. Galindo and Young are being treated at the San Ignacio Town Hospital. Dawson, though initially treated in San Ignacio, is recovering at the K.H.M.H. after undergoing surgery for the injuries she sustained to her back. Though it appears that the shootings are random acts of violence, police continue their investigations.
