Former Miss Belize releases “Belizean Cocktails” calendar
But there’s another calendar that can help you keep track of the year ahead. The glossy and attractive almanac “Belizean Cocktails” was released today and it features a different model for each month. One added feature is a recipe for festive and spirited cocktails with ingredients that can be had locally. Jose Sanchez reports.

“So we all got together, decided it was a calendar that we wanted to form. We didn’t want it to look the same every year, so what we did is we chose a theme. So every year it is going to be a different theme. This year, for 2009, is Belizean Cocktails. It’s going to be a theme that we’ll never be revisiting again. So every year it’s going to be a one of a kind calendar.”
One of the models is twenty-two year old Malaika Yorke from Belize City, who is proud of her education as well as her work as a model in Belizean Cocktails.

“I attended Pallotti High School, Wesley Junior College sixth form. I got my associates in information technology and I started my bachelors in information technology. Right now, I currently work at Center stage Café; me and my sister co-own it.”
“Getting ready for it, getting the makeup done and everything it was actually exciting for me because it was the very first professional photo shoot I’ve ever done. Maria did a good job with the makeup clearly and the whole scene of it was very creative. The cashews were juicy. Having to be there in that position for a while was tedious at times but it was very good; the outcome, I’m very happy with it.”

“We asked a couple girls and none of them wanted to do it with the snakes. So I said ok then I’ll do it, I don’t mind. I’ve never done pictures with snakes before so it was interesting for me. Luckily, we had a friend who collects snakes and the snakes were tame. He just put them on me and the most difficult part, of course, was to get the snakes to stay in position because they want to move all over the place. The one around my neck seemed to stay in place quite fine. The one on the limb, the one that I am holding in my hand was all over the place.”

“So how did you manage to keep your pose?”
Maria Jeffrey
“That was the trick. You have to just try to stay stiff and just try and just control the snake with only your hands.”
