UB students showcase marketing skills at open day
Any educator will tell you that learning theory is only one aspect of education… the other is application. Today students enrolled in the business and tourism programme at the University of Belize showcased their ability to apply their marketing knowledge in the real world. News Five stopped by the business campus to check it out.
Ida Arzu, Marketing Lecturer, UB
“They have basically developed concepts and analyzed the purpose of marketing and its essential place or role that it will play in the real world and so today they have that opportunity to display what they have learnt.”
Sean Tang, Student
“We are doing wines. We produced our own wines and it was all local foods and we go through standard procedures. It wasn’t as much as the other wines that other companies have.”
Kendra Griffith
“So you all actually made these?”
Sean Tang
“We had our own packaging and get our own bottles.”
Kendra Griffith
“What type of wines do you have?”
Sean Tang
“We have Blackberry wine, cashew, and serosi.”
Ida Arzu
“Marketing is important because if you look around in the world of business and all that is happening, if people don’t have knowledge of what you have to showcase or what you are about, then there won’t be any opportunity for growth. So you have to sell yourself, you have to be able to market yourself and be recognised and stand out and showcase all that you are about and grasp that market that is out there.”
Kendra Griffith
“It is hard work developing and marketing a business?”
Sean Tang
“Yeah, at the begin, the beginning and the planning was the hardest part and then marketing the product.”
Kendra Griffith
“So expecting a good grade though?”
Sean Tang
“Yes, of course.”
Approximately sixty students took part in the project.
