Victim recants; accused freed of Attempted Murder
Also in the court, a man was acquitted of charges of Attempted Murder and grievous harm when the complainant refused to have any further court actions against him. Twenty-two year old Gilbert Canaquie of Rivero Street was freed of the charges today and left the court a free man after his grand uncle, seventy-five year old, Gilbert Lodge, indicated he does not want any further court action.
The incident occurred sometime around two on the afternoon of October twenty-first when Canaquie allegedly lashed Lodge in the back of his head with a piece of stick causing contusions to the right side of his brain. The injury was classified as grievous harm since Lodge was knocked unconscious and suffered from memory loss of the incident. It was suggested that Canaquie is mentally challenged and when arraigned for the charges, Magistrate Tracy Sosa ordered that his mental health be evaluated by a psychiatrist.
