Belizeans top 13 countries in regional nutrition quiz
Belize topped the Caribbean in a nutrition competition. Four students representing Belize earned first place in the competition of the Caribbean Food and Nutrition Institute. The team competed against thirteen countries and on November twenty-fourth Belize faced and beat Antigua and Barbuda in the final showdown. The four students representing the country at the competition in St. Kitts are: Santiago Hernandez of Orange Walk Technical, Edgardo Serrut of Sacred Heart College, and Pedro Garcia and Gaby Miranda of San Pedro High School. The students won a trophy, cash awards and books. Every year the Ministries of Health and Education along with the Pan American Health Organization conduct the ADM Belize Mills Nutrition Quiz competition among secondary schools countrywide to promote nutrition and healthy lifestyles and to help students prepare for regional and local examinations in food and nutrition. The champs will be returning to Belize on Friday and are expected to get a hero’s welcome.
