Fires reported in Stann Creek and Orange Walk
Also in the north, the Orange Walk police department was the victim of a fire. Around one-thirty on Sunday police visited the police station in August Pine Ridge to find burning rubble where a two-storey wooden building once stood. The officer posted at the site was not there at the time of the incident and the cause of the blaze is not yet known. The structure housed the station on the lower flat and the living quarters for the village police officer on the upper.
And in another fire, foul play is not suspected in a blaze in the Stann Creek District. On Saturday, police visited the Santa Rosa Village where they saw two wooden buildings completely destroyed by fire. Homeowner Julio Choc told police that he went to use the latrine fifty feet away and when he came out saw that the thatched roof of one of the houses was engulfed in flames. The structure beside was also soon consumed by the flames. Police are investigating.
