Bank robbers get firearms but no cash
There are two types of thieves—sloppy ones, who leave behind evidence and smart ones, who police find hard to catch due to nifty handiwork. Over the weekend, the newly opened Atlantic Bank Branch at the corner of Cemetery and Magazine Roads was jacked by a set of criminal masterminds. The perpetrators entered from behind the building and cut the chain-linked fence at two points. They then proceeded to cut the telephone wires which would trigger the alarm system, pushed up the cameras, and then worked on the doors. The culprits cut the locks on the burglar-barred door, pried open the iron shutter and broke the lock to the innermost wooden door. The robbers got away with a few prize pieces, including a small metal safe containing three nine millimetre pistols each of which had two magazines with fifteen live rounds and a box containing seventeen extra rounds. Supervisor for the branch, Marco Leiva, says he and his staff became aware of the break in between seven and seven-thirty when they reported to work.

“Until we got in we figured something had gone wrong.”
Duane Moody
“What so far has gone missing or so to speak?”
Marco Leiva
“Basically it’s just a few minor items that were lost.”
Duane Moody
“Could you expound on that … did they go with computers?”
Marco Leiva
“A computer, a microwave that’s about it; they just ransacked the place.”
Duane Moody
“So they did not get any money.”
Marco Leiva
“No, nothing. Nothing was tampered with.”
Duane Moody
“Why did you think that this bank was targeted?”
Marco Leiva
“I didn’t think that this bank was… circumstances. If you notice everywhere was a target, not just this side so why shouldn’t we?”
Duane Moody
“Yeah, but why only take computer? Why not go for… you know?”
Marco Leiva
“Well I can’t think like them, I don’t know why they wouldn’t go for anything else. I mean, the vault is something hard to get into, the ATMs are hard. We have all the security features. We don’t have a guard stationed here. We have our cameras monitoring from inside, we have the alarm system that’s linked up to the K.B.H.”
This morning police recovered a stolen microwave in a backyard adjacent to the building. It is also known that one eyewitness saw a person entering the building but footage shows that they were in fact masked robbers.
